442s4 sleeper train to Inverleigh
Welcome
Hello and welcome to a collection of my photos.

If you'd like to ask a question, comments etc please don't hesitate to email me at dougk@alphalink.com.au

The older photos were taken with either a Pentax *Ist DS or a Pentax K10D. Lenses are a selection of Takumar screw mount fixed focal length lenses or Sigma Zoom. Photos taken after November 2008 have been taken with a Canon 50D. My digital photo editing skills are limited so the photos receive minimum touch ups.

I'm also happy to submit photos for publication, please send me an email.

Thanks for looking!

Doug

26th Sep 2009Derailed Extrapolis Near Croydon
On Friday night 25.09.2009 a car ran off a road between Croydon and Mooroolbark in Melbourne outer eastern suburbs and ended up on the down line. A down Lilydale Extrapolis hit the car shortly after, derailing the leading car. Luckily the occupant of the car managed to escape the car before the impact. Rerailing and repair efforts took the rest of the weekend. In a highlight for railfans, a rare move of a diesel loco on the Lilydale line was made when Vline pass locomotive A62 was sent down on the Saturday morning to help with rerailing and removing the derailed train. The train was rerailed around 6.30pm Saturday night, and stayed until around 9.00am the next morning where the A towed the Extrapolis to Newport workshops. Repair work lasted until the early hours of Monday morning.

12th Mar 2008GM36 VL356 El Zorro grain to Dimboola
El Zorro ran their standard gauge grain from Mcintyre in Melbournes' western suburbs to Dimboola. The engines ran out from Dynon around 08:40. Due out at 10:00, the train didn't leave until much later, having difficulty getting a path. At Tottenham Loop the train reversed, leaving the GM to lead the train to Dimboola (although the VL was doing all the work!)
    5th Mar 2008Moorabool Viaduct
Today I went out to look for the ballast train between Gheringhap and Ballarat with T413 and Y145 top and tailed. I found it between Lethbridge and Meredith. After it sat without moving an inch for two hours, hidden by trees, I gave up and went home. I stopped off at Moorabool Viaduct to see if anything turned up. After a while I photographed NR40 on WX2 9821 down steel going across Moorabool Viaduct. It crossed AB6 at Gheringhap with NR6 and DL44.

    28th Feb 2008Egelantiersgracht
On the way home from work I spotted a ship making it's way down the Yarra River towards Port Philip Bay, so I went off to find a spot for a photo. Just before 16:30 opposite Newport Power Station, I photographed the Egelantiersgracht, on it's way to Adelaide from Appleton Dock. Following the Egelantiersgracht were two tug boats, first Gabo and then Keera on their way to Webb Dock to help with a departure.

2nd Dec 2007Vietnam - Dalat to Trai Mat
A 6 hour bus trip from Saigon to visit Dalat for a couple of days. We rode the train from Dalat to Trai Mat and return. About a 20 minute journey each way, on this small railway once part of the Vietnam Railways system but now isolated. Two locomotives are used, usually the TY6N hauling one or two carriages that was on our train or if 4 carriages are used ( the total of the Dalat passenger rollingstock!) the D4H is used. A minimum of six passengers is required for the train to run, so as our group was 5 and no other passengers showed up, we had to buy 6 tickets.
